Gareth Harries

Gareth is the director in charge of the professional department. He acts on behalf of both landlords and tenants in providing advice on lease covenants, rent reviews, lease renewals and rating appeals. He also heads the company's management department dealing with both the commercial and residential management work in the office.

Experience: Gareth graduated in 1983 with a B.Sc. in Urban Estate Management, became an Associate of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1984 and was elected a Fellow of the Institution in 1992. In 2004 he became a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and in 2005 was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Arbitration from the College of Estate Management at Reading University. In 2007 he was appointed to the RICS Arbitration and Independent Expert panels and underwent a successful re-assessment process in 2012. He is a member of Arbrix and in 2010 became an RICS Registered Valuer.

Gareth has represented a number of national and local companies and private individuals in rent review and rating issues and has dealt with dilapidations claims, including s.18 valuations, as well as compulsory purchase work. He has accepted appointments as Arbitrator and Independent Expert on a number of rent review disputes throughout South Wales on a range of properties including retail units, banks, pharmacies, offices and industrial premises. He has dealt with rating appeals on a variety of properties including holiday cottages, retail units, car showrooms and large industrial units and has attended Local Valuation Tribunals and Lands Tribunal hearings.   

Gareth heads the company's management departments having had almost 16 years experience in national retail property management before joining Rowland Jones in 2002. He adopts a "hands on" approach to the commercial management work and ensures that a personal contact exists with clients and tenants whilst ensuring compliance with lease covenants and rent payments. He has been instrumental in developing the commercial management department in recent years including the addition of clients such as Neath Town Council and Beacon Centre for Health. He oversees all work relating to the residential blocks and attends management meetings and Annual General Meetings with clients as well as taking a guiding role in setting budgets and ensuring compliance with lease and service charge provisions.   

Interests: Having previously had an active interests in a number of sports including rugby, soccer and squash Gareth's interest is now much more of a sedentary nature. He is a season ticket holder with the Scarlets and is Vice President of Kidwelly RFC. He is Governor of Ysgol Gymraeg Gwenllian in Kidwelly as well being a Governor at Swansea Metropolitan University and a Council member of the University of Wales Trinity St David. He is an External Examiner at the Faculty of Advanced Technology at the University of Glamorgan. He is also a committee member of St Ishmaels Young Farmers Club and is a member the Parochial Church Council at St Mary's Church, Kidwelly.
